Foodstock
began as a way to commemmorate the release of Dig
the Hole. The band wanted to do something that
would not only be of benefit to those in need in
our community, but also would bring the community
together in new ways. We're very pleased
to report the event was an astounding success!
Thanks
to the generosity of numerous area businesses the
event wsa produced cost-free, so that every penny
and every pea we collected went directly to the
Food Pantry. In fact, it went so well, we've been
asked to work with a supporting committee of strong
supporters of the cause to produce a second, and
much larger, event at the end of the summer.
As
of this writing Foodstock has raised more than $7,500
and we're still going. We have already received
commitment from a few local organizations that are
mounting monthly drives, and individuals are beginning
to pledge monthly donations. Our long-term goal
was (and still is) $52,000 a year - a thousand dollars
a week to help feed almost 9,000 people in need,
based on last year's figures. When we began, we
hoped we'd reach just 10% of that, and we're already
aover 14% and gaining momentum.
