A note from Lane: OK, I'll fess up. I haven't had time to complete the write-up on recording the CD. But I'm working on it as much as possible. Right now, I'm concentrating on making the CD available online, both for purchase of Physical Copies (you know, CDs, those little plastic things that look like coasters, only shinier), and downloads. For now, here are the lyrics to the twelve songs we wrote. We do not yet have permission to reprint the lyrics for the lone cover on the CD. I'll get the rest up as soon as I can. ~~ Lane on Bass...

Time of My Dyin', Part 1

Comes the time of my dyin'
And you send me down that lonesome road
Comes the time of my dyin'
Won't you help me with my load
Save my weary soul
Save my weary soul

I was born into misery
And it's all this poor man know
I was born into misery
All my life, I been dyin slow
I'm a weary soul
Yes, I'm a weary soul

Now you know there is a devil
And he goes by many names
Yeah, you know there is a devil
All my life, he's put me to shame
And the devil wants my soul
The devil wants my soul

Comes the time of my dyin'
And you send me down that lonesome road
Comes the time of my dyin'
Won't you help me with my load
Save my weary soul Save my weary soul

(Yes, it's time... it most surely is...)

Black Sheep

I never meant to be the prodigal son
Never meant to live my life on the run
But that's me…. Yes, that's me
That's me, the Black Sheep of the family

Never meant to do half the things that I've done
All I ever wanted was to be a good son
But that's me…. Yes, that's me
That's me, the Black Sheep of the family

It's been a long road and a hard one
But it's all that I know
And all my life I feel like I been dyin' slow
And I pray and pray but no one hears my plea
So that's me, the Black Sheep of the family

When I was young I was hell on wheels
My mama said, boy you gonna make my heart reel
My papa said, son, you gonna drive me to drinkin'
If you don't settle down, now what the world are you thinkin'
But that's me…. Yes, that's me
That's me, the Black Sheep of the family

Stormfront

Storm cloud on the horizon
A hurricane was movin' in
Sotrm cloud on the horizon
A hurricane was movin' in
I could see it was time, for the flood was about to begin

I heard thunder saw the lightning
The rain flowed for days
I heard thunder saw the lightning
The rain flowed for days
I could see it was time to change my ways

(Aw, look out, here it come now)

Won't you look down and save me
Do what you can
Won't you look down and please save me
Please, do what you can
Cause if you save me now, I'll be a better man

I'll be a better man
I'll be... I'll be... I'll be a better a man
A better man
I'll be a bettr man

Please...
Please....
Please...

Storm cloud on the horizon...

Hound Dog

I'm a hound dog for you honey
And I'm on the prowl
You know your hound dog's comin' for you
When you hear your hound dog howl

I'm a hound dog for you honey
Can you hear me bark
Cause only the biggest dogs in town
Hit the streets right after dark

I'm a hound dog for you honey
And the hound dogs own the night
And when you hear your hound dog howl
You know everything's all right

I'm a hound dog for you honey
And I'm bound to roam
You know you're the only reason honey
That I ever come back home

Coupe de Ville

If love was time you'd be a watch by Piaget
If love was a painting you'd be a Rembrandt or Monet
If love was light you'd turn the night time into day
If love was wishes you'd have everything your way
It might sound pretty crazy but it's the way that I feel
If love was an automobile you'd be my Coupe de Ville

If love was a rock, well, you'd be a mountain range
If love could be bought I'd buy that shack outside La Grange
If love was a gold mine I'd stake the biggest claim
If love was fire you'd be my eternal flame
If love was red wine wine I'd buy a case and drink my fill
If love was an automobile you'd be my Coupe de Ville

You got a silky smooth transmission with a 4-speed overdrive
You got a silky smooth suspension, don't do no duck and dive
I love your headlights, your tail lights, your upholst'ry and your grill
If love was an automobile you'd be Coupe de Ville

If love was education you'd have a PhD
If love was water I'd sail your Seven Seas
If love was nature you'd be the birds and bees
If love was a number you'd be infinity times three
Love may not be money but you're ev'ry little thing to me still
If love was an automobile you'd be my Coupe de Ville
Yeah love sure 'nuff ain't money but you sure pay my bills
If love was an automobile you'd be my Coupe de Ville

Wish

I wish you could look down inside of me
I wish you could see what you've done to me

You'd see a soul that's torn apart
A shattered dying heart
And a man who just can't go on

On a world that's lost its spin
I'm a blind man blunderin'
Yes a man wonderin' just what went wrong

I wish I could take back whatever I've done
I wish I could see what to do but I'm stunned

I don't know what the hell went wrong
When our love was once so strong
And we had come so close to our dream

With just one more big test to pass
If our love could only last
We'd finally gain all we're meant to be

I wish we could get back whatever we've lost
I know I would give up whatever it cost

It's you I love with all my heart
And we can make a brand new start
Just reach out and take hold of my hand

And make a wish… Just one wish…

Make a wish… Just one wish… I got a wish

I wish I could see what to do… but I'm stunned…

Sober Up or Die

I spent the last six months, baby
Tryin' to drink you out my mind
But the time has come
I got to sober up or die

There's a hole in my chest
Where my heart used to be
You ripped it out and held it up
Displayed for all to see

I spent the last six months, baby
Tryin' to drink you out my mind
But the time has come
I got to sober up or die

You put me down in a hole
Abuot a mile deep
Damn near drank myself to death
Tryin' to put my pain to sleep

But ain't no drink strong enough
To take these blues away
So I'll pick myself up and dust myself off
And I'll be on my way

I spent the last six months, baby
Tryin' to drink you out my mind
But the time has come
I got to sober up or die

I'd Die for You

I'd take a bullet for you baby - Take a knife in the back
Do everything I could to keep your life on track
You know I'd die for you

You make a hound dog run - You make a black cat moan
You make this Prodigal Son - Wanna come back home
You make the full moon shine - Yes you surely do
And if you'd just be mine - You know I'd die for you

You make the trees grow high - You make the hawk fly low
You make the cool wind sigh - Everywhere you go
You make my poor heart pine - Yes I swear it's true
And if you'd just be mine - You know I'd die for you

But you don't even know me
And I swear it's just a cryin' shame
And I don't think my old heart
Can stand up underneath the strain
I'll never be the same…But girl I'd die for you

You make a blind man see - You make a lame man walk
You make my knees go weak - Every time you talk
I'd walk the straightest line - If you'd say I do
Cause if you'd just be mine - You know I'd die for you
I gotta love so fine - And you ain't got a clue
That if you'd just be mine - You know I'd die for you
Yes I would die for you

I'd take a bullet for you baby - Take a knife in the back
Do everything I could to keep your life on track
You know I'd die for you

Daddy's Pier

Me and Bobby, we used to go fishin'
With his brothers and his cousins off his daddy's pier
We'd swing from the rope, or maybe just go swimmin'
But man, it was important growin' up around here
It was a long time ago

As we got older we'd go down to the river
With a couple ol' guitars and a bottle of wine
We'd watch them barges loaded down heavy
Floatin' down the river towards the state line
It was a long time ago but not so far from here
It was a long time ago, singin' with Bobby down on his daddy's pier

But somethin' changed as Bobby got older
Tho' I can't exactly say just how or when
Seem as time pass by he just got more bitter
And he never could get himself right again
It was a long time ago

(one day he told me)
"I was fed and clothed by river trade labor
"My daddy and my uncle met the barge at dawn
"And I was brought up by my mama's favor
"But it sure look like them times is gone"
It was a long time ago, but not so far from here
It was a long time ago, list'nin' to Bobby, down on his daddy's pier

He said "times done changed and so did the people
"Now'days a simple man just trash roun' here
"Mama done died and Daddy's gone feeble"
He gazed into the distance eyes brimmin' with tears
It was a long time ago

He said "Willie I can't make no sense no more
"I don't understan' how the world runs now
"My hearts been trampled and my soul's been tore
I'd make a new life but I don't know how
It was a long time ago, but not so far from here
It was a long time ago, that Bobby hung himself down by daddy's pier

It was a long time ago, but I still can't go down there
It was a long time ago, but I can still hear Bobby singin'
Down by his daddy's pier

And the rope still taunts me down by his daddy's pier
And his voice still haunts me down by his daddy's pier
Yeah the reaper he wants me down by his daddy's pier

Time of My Dyin', Part 2

I was born into misery
All my life I been dyin' slow

I have met my share of devils
Lived a life of pain and woe
I have met my share of devils
Yes, that pain I surely know
And the devil wants my soul
The devil wants my soul

I'm a man who could do better
I'm a man who's done some wrong
I'm a man who could do better
Sing my pennance with my song
I wanna save my weary soul
Save my weary soul

I'm not scared of my dyin'
But I'm scared which way I'll go
Said I'm not scared, I'm not scared of dyin'
I just carry a heavy load
And I'm fearin' for my soul
Save my weary soul

Come the time of my dyin'
Send me down that one last road
Come the time of my dyin'
Won't you help me with my load
Save my weary soul
Save my weary soul

Come the time.... come the time of my dyin'

Come the time....

(It most surely is....)

Come the time....

So come the time... come the time of my dyin'
Won't you help me with my load

Underground

Well, I'm standin' on this mountain
Waitin' for the sun to come round
I'm a Peabody coal man
Tearin' this mountain down
And my soul trapped underground

Well my daddy, he a miner
Like his daddy done
Lived in chains to the comp'ny store
His soul sold for his son
Six days a week trapped underground

And when Sunday come callin'
Hear them church bells ring
I would pray for his protection
But while that choir sing
I'd curse the darkness underground

How I hate bein' a miner
It's takin' my soul away
Fear that black lung gon' take me
Put me right in my grave
And they'll lay me underground

So I'm standin' on my mountain
Time to head on down
Like my daddy I'm a coal man
And my soul's securely bound
I'm just a slave trapped underground
Think I'll die here underground
